Vacaville, California, USA – Just before 1:00 a.m. last Sunday, Vacaville police received a call from a concerned resident near Keating Park reporting a U-Haul truck parked near a Honda and the sound of an electric saw.
As the caller approached, one of three men activated the saw toward him in an apparent attempt to intimidate him. The suspects then fled in the U-Haul.
Officers discovered fresh damage to the Honda’s catalytic converter weld and a Sawzall blade left behind. A search of nearby neighborhoods quickly located the U-Haul, prompting a traffic stop. Two suspects ran from the vehicle, while the third remained inside.
Officer pursuit led to the apprehension of Jose Garcia, 40, of Richmond. Meanwhile, a patrol drone and K9 Rooster helped locate Gilberto Castillo, 30, transient, hiding inside a boat. Even Jarquinreyes, 36, of Vacaville, remained detained at the U-Haul.
Inside the truck, officers found multiple Sawzall tools, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. Castillo had an active felony no-bail warrant out of Marin County, while Garcia was on probation in Alameda County for possession of stolen property.
All three were booked into Solano County Jail on charges including attempted grand theft, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy, possession of narcotics and narcotic paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.
Vacaville police praised their night shift teams for using training, technology, and persistence to protect the community.
