Kingsport, TN – Video released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol shows the tense moment troopers saved a woman who was considering jumping from a bridge the day after Christmas.

The incident happened on Interstate 81 South at the 60-mile marker bridge overlooking the Holston River, according to authorities.

“A woman was in a dark place and was considering jumping,” officials said. “Because people showed up and worked together, she is alive tonight.”

Seven Tennessee Highway Patrol units responded, along with crews from Sullivan County, the Kingsport Police Department, Sullivan County EMS, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

The video shows the woman standing on the bridge while officers spoke with her. At a critical moment, one responder quickly pulled her away from the ledge, preventing the fall.
