Tractors Take Over Madrid In Massive Farmers’ Uprising

Madrid, Spain – A video filmed by X user Fernando FG-R captured sweeping scenes from a huge farmers’ and livestock breeders’ tractor protest in central Madrid on February 11, 2026.

The footage shows long convoys of tractors moving slowly or standing still across major boulevards in the heart of the capital. Many vehicles are painted in bright colors such as green, red, and blue, and are decorated with Spanish national flags, regional banners, protest signs, and symbolic displays.

Drivers and supporters wearing high-visibility yellow vests stand on and beside the tractors, waving flags and holding placards backing Spanish agriculture, including messages such as “Products from Spain first.” The blockade brought major traffic disruption, with cars halted along wide avenues lined by classic Madrid buildings, trees, and city infrastructure.

Crowds gathered on sidewalks, applauding and cheering the protesters. Some vehicles honked in support, while others remained stuck in the paralysis gripping parts of the capital. The mood throughout the clip reflects solidarity and defiance, with no visible clashes or police intervention.

The protest was part of the large February 11, 2026 tractorada in Madrid, where hundreds of tractors — with official estimates ranging from 367 to 500 and organizers claiming more — and thousands of participants converged toward Plaza de Colon before marching along Paseo de Recoletos and Paseo del Prado to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Organized by groups including Union de Uniones and Unaspi, the mobilization demanded the scrapping of the EU-Mercosur trade deal, cuts to bureaucracy and environmental regulations linked to the Green Deal, fair product prices, and stronger support amid rising costs. The action caused widespread traffic chaos but drew visible backing from many Madrid residents.
