Puerto Varas, Chile – A tornado struck the town of Puerto Varas on Sunday afternoon and was captured on video by X user Marcia.
In the footage, the twister can be seen tearing through homes in the distance.
The Chilean Meteorological Directorate confirmed the tornado was rated EF-1. It hit just after 3 p.m. local time. Puerto Varas is located about 600 miles south of Santiago.
According to Chile’s national newspaper, at least 19 people were injured and more than 250 homes were damaged.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric visited Puerto Varas on Monday to inspect the damage. He announced that emergency funds would be provided for those impacted, according to the national newspaper.
