Tennessee, USA – On January 28, TCSO deputies responded to Carpenter Road to carry out a court-ordered eviction at a duplex. The tenant had been notified multiple times that this day marked the final notice.
Authorities discovered that the tenant had written “Fuck ICE” on the residence’s windows and had armed the home with edged weapons, causing significant damage to the walls. Neighbors reported abusive behavior, including yelling racial slurs at passing minorities.
Despite nearly two hours of hailing and attempts to negotiate, the tenant refused to leave. Flames suddenly erupted from the living room couch, rapidly engulfing the residence. Neighbors in the adjoining duplex were evacuated, and deputies established probable cause for first-degree arson.
When the suspect exited the home, he ignored commands and advanced toward the backyard armed with a machete. Deputies used distance and cover, deploying multiple 40mm less-lethal rounds and Tasers to safely subdue him without lethal force.
The suspect sustained an injury to his right arm, believed to be from the initial less-lethal shot. He was dragged to the street, detained, and transported to the hospital. Once cleared, he will be charged with first-degree arson and first-degree malicious mischief.
TCSO deputies were praised for demonstrating skill, patience, and courage, successfully managing a dangerous situation while avoiding a lethal encounter.
