McCracken County, KY – A high-speed pursuit ended in tragedy on Lone Oak Road when a pickup truck crashed into a house, killing the driver after he fired at law enforcement.

The chase began around 8 p.m. on Nov. 7, when a Marshall County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a pickup towing a camper driving recklessly with a flat tire. Attempts to stop the truck failed as it sped through the area of Hardmoney Road in Paducah. During the pursuit, the camper disconnected, but the driver continued to flee.

Deputies from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office and Paducah Police joined the chase, which headed into the Lone Oak area. As the vehicle approached the city limits, a police sergeant deployed stop sticks and positioned his patrol car with emergency lights activated near the former K-Mart lot.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Robert Wray of Kevil, allegedly fired multiple shots at officers, with one bullet striking the rear passenger window near the sergeant. No officers were injured.

Law enforcement attempted a PIT maneuver to stop the truck, but the chase concluded when Wray crashed into a house on the 200 block of Lone Oak Road. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Authorities reported Wray suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No residents of the home or officers were harmed during the incident. Investigators confirmed that no law enforcement firearms were discharged during the chase.
