Green Fire, United States – Two super scooper aircraft dropped a total of 127,400 gallons of water on the Green Fire yesterday.
The amphibious planes targeted a 50-acre spot fire that broke out on July 15. Their efforts helped ground crews strengthen and reinforce fire lines around the area today.
Each aircraft scoops water by skimming the surface for just 20 seconds. In that short time, they can load over 1,400 gallons.
The scooping system uses two 3”x9” openings to draw in water. Fish are not captured during this process, as they quickly flee when they sense the disturbance.
