The flooding is part of a larger trend of extreme weather events linked to climate change. Similar flooding problems were reported in Pakistan in 2025.

Spain also faced deadly flash floods in late October 2024, which claimed more than 155 lives across eastern and southern regions, including areas near Molina de Segura.
