Six Rebels Storm House of Lords with Handbills Demanding People’s Rule

London, England – Today, March 20, 2025, at 12:00, six daring individuals unleashed chaos in the House of Lords. They showered peers with 1,000 handbills and unfurled a banner screaming ‘PEOPLE IN – LORDS OUT’ from the viewing gallery. Their bold stunt demanded a House of the People to replace the ancient chamber, inviting Brits to join the first session in Summer 2025. Ahead of a debate marking the 75th Anniversary of the European Convention of Human Rights, they rained down leaflets in two fiery designs. The Speaker of the House, stunned, muttered, “We’ll adjourn for five minutes.”

The leaflets blared: “NO MORE LORDS, HOUSE OF THE PEOPLE NOW, HOUSEOFTHEPEOPLE.UK” and “NEVER MIND THE LORDS LETS HAVE A HOUSE OF THE PEOPLE, ARISTOCRATS & OLIGARCHS: OUT, POSTIES, MUMS, NURSES, AND NEIGHBOURS: IN, REPLACE THE HOUSE OF LORDS TO SAVE THE UK.” It’s a call to ditch the Lords for a jury-like system where any UK adult could serve, balancing the Commons. The act echoes the Suffragettes’ 1908 handbill drop for women’s votes.

Christina Jenkins, 31, a care worker from Cwmbran, was among them. She fumed, “We need a People’s House, not a house of wealthy elites. Lords: give up your seat!” She slammed the five-year vote gap and a broken system failing on housing, wars, and climate woes. Assemble, a grassroots group, is plotting the first House of the People event. Spokesman Bertie Coyle, 30, said, “It’s free, open, and funded by us. It’ll fairly represent all – but whisper that, corporations won’t like it.” Árainn Justin Hawker, 53, a school leader from Langport, added, “British politics is broken. This is our best hope.”

Polls back scrapping the Lords for a citizens’ assembly. With the lowest election turnout in 20 years, the push for change is loud.
