Road Blocked As Police Shelter Residents Amid Hurricane Melissa

Black River, Jamaica – Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the St Elizabeth Division, confirmed that the road leading to Black River Hospital is now completely blocked. Access to emergency services has been cut off, leaving the community in urgent need of support.

In response, authorities have taken action to ensure safety, temporarily housing several residents at the Black River Police Station. Superintendent Minto emphasized that the station continues to “go above and beyond to keep residents and visitors to our island safe.”

The move highlights the ongoing challenges posed by Hurricane Melissa, which has left roads impassable and critical infrastructure vulnerable. Local authorities are coordinating efforts to shelter residents and maintain security amid the unfolding disaster.
