Rescue Teams Battle Avalanche In Madesimo Searching For Missing Man

Madesimo, Italy – On February 16, 2026, rescue teams continued searching above Monte Spluga in Madesimo for a man swept away by an avalanche that struck two snowmobiles carrying four hikers. Three individuals managed to reach safety, while the fourth remains missing.

Firefighters, working alongside the Guardia di Finanza and the Alpine Rescue, have been conducting operations since yesterday afternoon. Heavy snowfall and the elevated risk of further avalanches have made the search particularly challenging.

Specialized firefighting teams are combing through snow and ice, supported by drones equipped with thermal cameras operated by the SAPR (Remotely Piloted Systems) unit. Experts are also using IMSI Catcher systems to help locate mobile devices in the area.

The combined effort aims to locate the missing man swiftly amid dangerous winter conditions, with rescue personnel coordinating continuously despite the ongoing avalanche threat.
