Adamuz, Spain – Emergency teams continue to respond after a high-speed train derailed and collided with an oncoming train near Adamuz in Córdoba, leaving at least 40 dead. Local authorities have mobilized over 220 civil guards from multiple units, including Security, Traffic, GRS, and Air Service divisions, to secure the area and assist with rescue operations.

The Central Forensic Team is working to identify victims, while the Central Team for On-Site Inspections (ECIO) examines the crash site for evidence to determine the causes of the disaster. Police have also set up an office in Córdoba to collect DNA samples from relatives to help with identification.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes. Ana Garcia Aranda, 26, said, “The train tipped to one side… then everything went dark, and all I heard was screams.” She and her pregnant sister were rescued by other passengers and emergency responders. Resident Paqui recalled finding a dead child inside the wreckage while another cried for their mother.

Emergency crews face challenges reaching the hilly crash site, which is accessible only by a single-track road. Authorities continue working to lift wreckage and treat the injured, with 12 people in intensive care following the accident.
