Villaverde, Spain – The National Police have dismantled a major cannabis production operation in the Villaverde district of Madrid, targeting an entire apartment block used as indoor marijuana grow facilities.
The operation involved 13 separate grow rooms spread across three adjacent buildings on Beniferri Street, specifically at numbers 28, 30, and 32 in the San Cristóbal neighborhood. Authorities described the buildings as functioning as a “marijuana production and manufacturing center” rather than isolated grow operations.
Investigators explained that ordinary residents lived under constant threat and fear while the criminal network, operated by a single family clan, occupied apartments exclusively adapted for cultivation with specialized rooms and high security measures.
The operation included 16 raids and searches, seizing 4,300 marijuana plants, 30 kilograms of buds, €5,000 in cash, a firearm, bladed weapons, and cultivation equipment. Authorities noted the infrastructure, costing around €300,000, was highly technological, designed to maximize production and quality. Estimated annual profits exceeded €1 million if sold at retail.
Five people, three women and two men, were arrested on charges including drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons, membership in a criminal group, and electricity fraud. Immediate imprisonment was ordered.
The investigation began on November 4, 2024, after authorities identified the family clan operating a sophisticated and diversified cultivation network. Diversification allowed year-round production by staggering growth cycles in smaller, controlled cultivation areas.
Authorities also seized bank accounts, two vehicles, and eight properties linked to the criminal activities, effectively dismantling the network and preventing further harm to neighbors living in constant fear.
