Pitbull Shot At By DC Officer After Attacking Child, Later Found Unharmed

District of Columbia – On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at approximately 3:42 p.m., a pit bull attacked a child near the intersection of Benning Road and F Street Southeast. A Metro DC police officer intervened to stop the attack, after which the dog ran off.

The officer later located the pit bull outside a residence on the 4,800 block of Benning Road Northeast. Keeping a safe distance, the officer produced their service weapon.

The pit bull charged around the rear of a parked vehicle toward the officer. The officer moved away and shouted warnings twice, but the dog continued advancing. The officer discharged their service weapon once, causing the pit bull to run away.

Authorities later located the pit bull uninjured.

The dog’s owner was issued a noncustodial arrest for having an unleashed dog.
