Over 100 Fires Erupt In Catania As Firefighters Battle Blazes Across The Region

Catania, Italy – A wave of vegetation fires broke out across the Catania area on Wednesday, July 9, prompting more than 100 emergency interventions in just 24 hours.

The Catania fire brigade worked throughout the day and into the late evening to bring the fires under control.

Reinforcements from Palermo, Enna, and Messina supported the local teams during the operations.

Major efforts were concentrated in the city’s industrial zone and the fruit and vegetable market area.

Fires were also reported and tackled in Grammichele, Paternò, Jungetto, and Belpasso.

By the end of the day, all fires had been extinguished.
