Hat Yai, Thailand – A short video filmed from inside a shelter on November 25, 2025, shows what used to be a neighborhood in Hat Yai now swallowed by floodwater. In less than 15 seconds, footage posted by X user @Nusiwsiw captures a disaster being described as a “once-in-300-years” rain event.

A historic storm has slammed southern Thailand, sending floodwaters more than 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) deep across Hat Yai city in Songkhla province. Officials said the deluge left a maternity ward with 30 newborn babies temporarily isolated.

The Royal Irrigation Department reported the heaviest rainfall in Hat Yai in 300 years, a statistical indication that this kind of storm has only a “1-in-300” likelihood in any given year. As of Monday, nine southern provinces remain inundated, affecting more than 127,000 households.

Images and video from Hat Yai show entire streets lost beneath brown water, houses partly submerged, and rescue boats moving residents to safety.

Today, @Nusiwsiw reported that relief crews have begun evacuating elderly people and children from the mosque area shown in the video, taking them to higher, drier locations. Community sharing on social media has helped speed up the emergency response.
