Officers Take To Paddleboards To Catch Suspect In Halifax River

Volusia County, Fla. – Two Florida law enforcement officers pursued a suspect who fled into the Halifax River and successfully captured him using paddleboards.

The incident began when deputies attempted to detain a man for questioning. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Chase Cruz, ran from the scene and jumped into the river.

A deputy and a Daytona Beach Shores police officer quickly launched paddleboards to reach him. They navigated the water and located Cruz, bringing him safely back to shore without further incident.

Authorities confirmed Cruz was charged with loitering and prowling, as well as resisting arrest. The swift action of the officers ensured the suspect was apprehended safely despite the unusual circumstances.
