Officer Struck By Vehicle While Directing School Traffic

Rankin County, Mississippi – An officer assigned to McLaurin schools was struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning while directing traffic in front of the campus.

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. on Star Road, according to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office. The officer was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and is now recovering at home.

The identities of both the officer and the driver have not been released.

The sheriff’s office urged the public to “keep the deputy involved, his family, and his colleagues in your thoughts and prayers.”

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is currently investigating the circumstances of the collision.
