Officer Smashes Window To Rescue Child Trapped In Sweltering Car

Indianapolis, Indiana – A dramatic rescue unfolded as an officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to a child locked inside a dangerously hot car during scorching temperatures.

The department shared footage of the incident in its latest “Sworn to Serve” video, showing the officer swiftly taking action to save the child from the heat.

Officials warned that even on a 75° day, a vehicle’s interior can reach over 95° in just ten minutes. Cracking the windows provides no real protection from the rising temperatures.

Authorities are urging the public to stay alert and take simple precautions, such as placing a personal item in the back seat to avoid forgetting a child.

“Never leave a child alone in a vehicle, not even for a minute,” IMPD emphasized.

The department reminded residents that if they see a child alone in a car—especially one who appears sweaty, crying, or unresponsive—they should call 911 immediately.

The rescued child is now safe, thanks to the quick actions of the responding officer.
