Eniwa City, Hokkaido, Japan – A video filmed on January 13, 2026, shows extreme blizzard conditions overwhelming an urban street in Eniwa City during a powerful winter storm.

The footage, recorded at night from inside a stationary vehicle, captures heavy snow falling nonstop as strong winds drive it sideways, creating near-whiteout visibility. Streetlights and traffic signals appear only as faint, blurred glows through the dense snowfall.

Windshield wipers can be seen struggling to clear rapidly accumulating snow, briefly revealing a road fully covered in snow with deep tire ruts. Cars and trucks move slowly through the storm, their headlights and taillights diffused by the blowing snow.

Power poles, overhead wires, buildings, and roadside signs are barely visible along the street, some obscured by the storm, reinforcing the dangerous and isolating conditions. No pedestrians appear in the video, while the sound of strong wind mixes with faint music from the vehicle’s radio.

The video was shared by X user @Mo_Tei (もにゅ), with a caption that reads: “The blizzard in Eniwa City is too intense.”

The blizzard struck as part of a severe winter storm system affecting Hokkaido and much of Japan from January 10 to January 13, driven by a strong cold air mass and winter pressure patterns. Across the region, heavy snowfall, blizzards, and gusts reaching up to 90 km/h caused whiteout conditions, dangerous roads, and travel disruptions.

In Hokkaido, snowfall reached 56 cm in nearby Otaru City by January 11, with forecasts of 50 to 80 cm in affected areas through January 13. While no injuries or major incidents were reported in Eniwa from this video, authorities urged residents to remain indoors as daily life across the island was disrupted.
