Mayon Volcano Produces Pyroclastic Density Current And 3000-Meter Plume

Legazpi City, Philippines – Mayon Volcano experienced a pyroclastic density current (PDC) event today, February 27, 2026, starting at 12:40 p.m., as recorded by the Mayon Volcano Observatory.

The PDC traveled approximately 300 meters along the Bonga Gully toward the southeast. Simultaneously, a brownish plume rose 3,000 meters above the summit before drifting southwest.

Authorities maintain Alert Level 3 over Mayon Volcano. Entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone remains strictly prohibited due to ongoing volcanic hazards.

Residents and visitors are urged to follow official safety guidelines and avoid the danger zone.
