Truckee, California – 28 August 2025 – Authorities have reopened all lanes of westbound I-80 near Floriston Way following a massive mudslide that disrupted traffic.
The California Highway Patrol in Truckee confirmed the cleanup early Thursday morning. At 3:00 a.m., they reported: “The mudslide on westbound I-80 east of Floriston Way has been cleared. All lanes back open.”
The mudslide blocked lanes and forced crews to work quickly to remove debris and restore safe travel. CHP advised drivers to slow down and remain alert for personnel during the cleanup.
Social media updates highlighted the dramatic scene, with one post noting: “When the mountain decides it wants to share a little too much… we get a mudslide.”
Caltrans crews initially opened only the #1 lane while clearing the roadway, ensuring the safety of motorists and workers.
Drivers in the area are encouraged to exercise caution, as mountain roadways can quickly become hazardous during such events.
