Massive Floodwaters Surge Through Barranco Into La Charca Lagoon During Storm Therese

Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, Spain – Video filmed by X user MyCanaryIslands shows huge volumes of brown floodwater rushing violently down a barranco and surging into La Charca lagoon during Storm Therese.

The handheld footage captures powerful, turbulent currents and high water levels as rainwater from the storm drains rapidly through the channel under gray skies.

The dramatic flow followed intense rainfall from Storm Therese in late March 2026, which triggered orange weather alerts and flash flooding across multiple ravines on Gran Canaria.

Authorities opened a relief channel at the Maspalomas Ravine to prevent overflow and protect the nearby beach and dune system. No injuries were reported in this area.

The footage was posted with the caption: “Much water runs into La Charca.”
