Almeria, Spain – On April 16, X user JorgeWarrior3 published a video showing a massive fire at the Lunimar recycling plant on Carretera del Mamí in Almería.

The user commented in Spanish, saying: “Incendio en Almería La Juaida. Parece ser que es una planta de reciclaje.”

A significant fire broke out at the Lunimar recycling plant, creating a dense column of dark gray smoke visible across the city and nearby towns.

According to 112 Emergency Services, calls began flooding in around 7 p.m., with over fifty reports received. Firefighters, Guardia Civil, and National Police were quickly dispatched.

The entire warehouse was engulfed in flames. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

The fire started around 7:30 p.m. and escalated rapidly. Flames reached several meters high, fueled by wind gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour.

As firefighters battled the fire, Guardia Civil de Tráfico managed traffic in the dangerous area. National and Local Police assisted in the response.

Earlier in the day, at around 3:40 p.m., another fire broke out in a two-story house on Calle Verdiales in the El Puche neighborhood.

Four people, including two police officers and two civilians, were treated for smoke inhalation from the earlier incident.

Residents expressed concern about the fire’s proximity to critical infrastructure, including the Torrecárdenas hospital.

Emergency services continued receiving alarmed calls into the evening as the fire raged on.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire at the Lunimar plant, which processes plastic and cardboard waste.

Workers tried to evacuate stored materials but could not succeed due to the fast spread of the fire.

This is not the first fire at the Lunimar plant. A similar major blaze occurred there in October 2020.

The Almería recycling plant fire highlights the ongoing risks tied to waste processing facilities with flammable materials.

Officials are expected to provide further updates on the situation.

Community members are urged to avoid the area and follow official safety instructions.
