Glasgow, United Kingdom – A dramatic nighttime blaze tore through a multi-story building near Glasgow Central Station, sending towering flames and thick black smoke into the sky as crowds gathered on nearby streets to watch the unfolding emergency.
Footage captured by X user Miller Robertson shows large groups of onlookers standing behind barriers along Union Street as the intense orange glow of the fire lights up the area. People in coats, including men, women, and groups of spectators, can be seen staring toward the flames or filming with their phones as smoke rises above the historic buildings.
The fire consumed the upper floors of a Victorian-era structure located at the corner of Union and Gordon Streets. Bright embers and heavy smoke filled the night sky while city lights and neon shop signs reflected off the pavement below.
Emergency vehicles and flashing lights surrounded the scene as the blaze intensified, forcing evacuations and road closures around the area next to Glasgow Central Station. The station itself was shut down during the incident.
Authorities said the fire began in a ground-floor vape shop and later caused a partial collapse of the B-listed building dating back to 1851.
More than 60 firefighters responded to the major blaze. The incident caused serious disruption to rail services, though no injuries were reported. Glasgow Central Station remained closed into the following day as crews continued working to extinguish remaining hotspots.
