El Segundo, CA – Video filmed by X user Austin Ma shows a massive industrial fire at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo, California, just south of LAX. The footage was shot at night from a moving car and from a nearby parking lot.
The clip opens with a ground-level view from inside the vehicle approaching along a quiet street, revealing intense orange flames and thick black smoke rising behind chain-link fencing, framed by trees, streetlights and flashing red emergency lights ahead.
The handheld footage pans and shakes as the blaze intensifies, the flames lighting the dark sky.
It then widens to show the inferno engulfing a building, palm trees silhouetted against the fiery glow, heavy smoke billowing across the urban skyline and parked cars in the foreground, underscoring the fire’s proximity to neighborhoods.
An explosion at Chevron’s El Segundo refinery ignited the fire around 9:30 p.m. on October 2, sending a heat blast felt by residents. Fire crews contained the blaze by early October 3 with no injuries or evacuations ordered.
