Pierce County, USA – On November 4 at around 8:00 a.m., Community Liaison Deputies conducting a security check on a property in the 8300 block of Portland Ave. E encountered a man and his dog inside a recently cleared homeless encampment.
Deputies routinely return to such locations to ensure no new camps are established. When they found a tent on the property, they made contact with the man and informed him he was trespassing.
The man gave several fake names and refused to provide his real identity. After 20 minutes of attempts to persuade him, deputies told him he would be detained until his name could be confirmed.
At that moment, the man threw his dog at one of the deputies and tried to run. He slipped and fell, leading to a prolonged struggle before deputies were able to take him into custody, including the use of a taser.
The 55-year-old man was booked into the Pierce County Jail as John Doe because he could not be identified at the scene. He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, harassment, resisting arrest, trespassing, and animal cruelty.
Once fingerprinted at the jail, deputies learned his real name and confirmed he had felony warrants out of Arizona and Ohio, as well as warrants from Olympia.
The dog was not injured. Animal control took custody of the animal, which is now being cared for at the Humane Society.
