Hawaii, US – Lava from Kilauea’s south vent in Halemaumau crater soared to approximately 400 meters (1,300 feet) on February 15, 2026, while the north vent reached around 300 meters (1,000 feet). The eruption lasted 9 hours and 48 minutes, ending at 11:38 PM HST.

A towering plume rose 35,000 feet into the sky, carrying light ash and strands of Pele’s hair southwest. During the eruption, about 15 million cubic yards (11.4 million cubic meters) of lava flowed, covering roughly half of the crater floor.

The dramatic display lit the night sky as molten streams and towering fountains showcased the sheer power of Kilauea’s volcanic activity.
