Ice Breaks Beneath Fishermen At Mantua Reservoir In Terrifying Rescue

Mantua, Utah – Dashcam footage shows the dramatic rescue of two people who fell through the ice at Mantua Reservoir on Sunday.

At approximately 1:25 p.m., on February 2nd, officers from the Mantua Police Department responded to a report of two individuals plunging through the ice. Upon arrival, officers deployed flotation devices and, with the assistance of bystanders, were able to pull both people to safety.

Witnesses said the victims were ice fishing with friends when the ice suddenly cracked beneath them, causing them to fall simultaneously into the freezing water. Both were evaluated by medical personnel on scene and were able to leave under their own power.

Police secured the area with caution tape to prevent further accidents and thanked the citizens who helped during the rescue. “We’d like to thank the citizens who assisted us with the ice rescue. They were the true heroes! We are strongly urging people to stay off the ice as the weather warms up. We understand the desire to ice fish is there but it’s not worth the potential of getting injured or possibly worse,” the department said in a press release.
