North Carolina – On June 19, 2025, a section of Interstate 40 is closed due to large amounts of mud and debris on the roadway.
The closure is in the same area damaged during Hurricane Helene, but the damage is not as extensive.
Crews are working to clean the roadway. Residents in the area have access to alternative routes.
A survey team is using drones to get an accurate picture of the area and assess damages.
The closure is expected to last for at least two weeks.
Commercial and thru traffic should use I-81 to I-26 or I-81 to I-77 detour routes.
These are the same detour routes used during the I-40 closure for Hurricane Helene.
