Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi – Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters with the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, part of the 403rd Wing, flew into a torrential storm stream over the Pacific Ocean on February 22, 2025.
The mission was part of a weather reconnaissance operation to gather critical information on the storm system’s conditions.
During the flight, crews collected data on wind, pressure, temperature, and humidity. These measurements help forecasters improve predictions of heavy rain, flooding, and other potential impacts along the U.S. West Coast.
The operation highlights the role of Hurricane Hunters in monitoring extreme weather and supporting accurate forecasting to protect communities and infrastructure.
