At this time of year, bears need around 20,000 calories daily to build fat for the winter months.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife emphasizes the importance of securing garbage and bird feeders to prevent bears from becoming habituated to human food. Proper storage helps reduce conflicts and ensures bears maintain their wild behavior.

Fat bear fall is underway, and bears across the state are working hard to pack on pounds before winter arrives.
