Heroic Oak Brook Officers Rescue Motorist From Burning Overturned Car

Oak Brook, IL – In the early hours of December 21, 2025, Oak Brook Police officers performed a daring rescue after a sedan rolled over and caught fire on eastbound Interstate 88.

Around 3:38 a.m., an officer on patrol northbound on Route 83 near 31st Street observed a sedan traveling at high speed with no lights illuminated. The vehicle exited onto I-88, where the officer soon encountered it overturned, with flames consuming the engine compartment.

The sedan’s sole occupant was trapped inside. Officers immediately deployed fire extinguishers and worked to extricate the individual, crawling beneath the overturned vehicle to complete the rescue.

The occupant and two officers sustained minor injuries, including smoke inhalation. All were transported to a local hospital, treated, and released.

Oak Brook Police Chief Brian Strockis praised the officers’ bravery: “These officers acted without hesitation, placing themselves in harm’s way. There is no doubt that their actions saved this individual’s life. I am grateful that only minor injuries were sustained, and I could not be more proud of their bravery and professionalism.”

The crashed vehicle was later confirmed to be the same sedan initially seen speeding on Route 83. The Illinois State Police are conducting the ongoing investigation.
