Fairbanks North Star Borough, USA – A massive wildfire known as the Himalaya Road Fire is raging out of control, sending thick black smoke into the sky as helicopters work to contain the flames.
Video footage shows the intense fire activity and aerial suppression efforts over the Himalaya Road area.
The fire, which began on June 19, 2025, has burned 6,074 acres.
It continues to threaten structures, prompting ongoing mop-up and structure protection operations.
Crews are monitoring for heat along the perimeter, while cold trailing continues where conditions allow.
Some supplies have been consolidated from the fire to support water pump operations in the Chatanika River corridor.
There are 250 personnel assigned to this fire.
The blaze is fueled by black spruce and grass, and remains at 0% containment.
The cause has been identified as lightning.
Level 1 “READY” and Level 2 “SET” evacuation alerts are in effect.
Drivers are urged to use extreme caution on the Elliott Highway and to stay alert for heavy equipment and reduced visibility from smoke.
A Temporary Flight Restriction is active, and drone use is strictly prohibited over the fire zone.
