Hamtramck Officer Performs Heroic Rescue To Save Choking Baby

Hamtramck, Michigan – A Hamtramck police officer saved a choking infant in a dramatic January 24 rescue, with bodycam footage capturing the tense moments.

K9 Officer Jacob Hoxsey, with nearly six years of service, received the emergency call around 9 p.m. reporting that two-month-old baby Hashim was choking and not breathing.

“That’s a call that we never want to hear. I will never forget that,” Hoxsey said.

The 911 caller reported the baby was “turning blue” as Hoxsey raced to Hewitt Street, covering six minutes from the station in under two minutes with lights and sirens.

Upon arrival, Hoxsey found Hashim’s face, hands, and feet had turned blue. Every second counted as he immediately began life-saving CPR.

“I could see that the child, his face was blue, hands were blue, and feet were blue,” Hoxsey said.

He administered back blows and chest compressions, marking his first real-life CPR emergency despite prior training. With the family praying nearby, Hoxsey continued until he heard the sound he had been waiting for – the baby crying and breathing again.

“All that stress just exited my body. I will not forget that,” Hoxsey said.

Acting Chief Hussein Farhat and Deputy Chief Andrew Mileski praised Hoxsey, noting he and other officers had completed CPR training just three weeks earlier.

“The way he did it, it looked like an instructor in a training course. Knew what he was doing. Very calm,” Farhat said.

Baby Hashim is now doing well. Hoxsey encouraged the community: “I highly suggest take that CPR class. It could potentially save your child’s life.”
