Daroca, Spain – Firefighters from the Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigades based in Daroca, Zaragoza, faced fierce challenges yesterday while combating a fierce wildfire.
Initially, crews worked to establish a defensive line, but the heavy vegetation forced them to switch tactics. They moved to a two-foot-wide line and employed technical backburning to control and tighten the fire’s perimeter.
A significant obstacle arose as aerial firefighting units inadvertently extinguished the backburning efforts—a situation known to occur in this type of wildfire.
As daylight faded and aerial support ceased, firefighters continued counter-fire operations on the ground. They were supported by a CyL fire engine while maintaining the defensive line to contain the blaze.
