Flames Cross Highway And Threaten Beachside Vegetation Near Gaviota

Gaviota, California – A vegetation fire erupted near Mariposa Reina along Highway 101, sending flames from the center divider to the beachside.

Emergency resources rushed to the scene as the fire began to spread rapidly.

Heavy traffic was reported in the area as smoke filled the air and visibility dropped.

The fire was later estimated at 5 acres.

Santa Barbara County Fire, Los Padres Forest crews, and CAL FIRE responded.

Fixed-wing and rotary aircraft flew in to support ground personnel.

Aerial units dropped retardant and water to help contain the perimeter.

The firefighting effort continues as crews work to prevent further spread.
