Bernalda, Italy – On Monday, June 23, 2025, a wildfire broke out in the Mediterranean scrub and dry brush around Bernalda, in the province of Matera.
Flames quickly spread through the area, prompting a large-scale firefighting response.
Two Canadair aircraft from the national firefighting fleet were deployed to battle the blaze from the air.
An additional Drago helicopter and four ground teams also responded to the emergency.
Authorities ordered the evacuation of two residential buildings in the area of Chiesa degli Angeli for safety.
The fire threatened homes and land, fueling concerns over worsening conditions.
