Fiery Eruption Rocks Kanlaon Volcano Sending Plumes 2000 Meters High

Kanlaon Volcano, Philippines – A sudden eruption at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano occurred at 4:39 p.m. on February 19, 2026, lasting two minutes, according to seismic records from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST).

The eruption sent a dark gray plume soaring 2,000 meters above the crater before drifting southwest. Pyroclastic density currents descended the southern and southwestern upper slopes, reaching within 1 kilometer of the summit, as recorded by IP cameras of the Kanlaon Volcano Network.

PHIVOLCS-DOST confirmed that Alert Level 2 remains in effect. Entry into the 4-kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited.
