Eyewitness Video Shows Panic After Deadly Knife Attack In Taipei

Taipei, Taiwan – Eyewitness footage recorded by a Japanese tourist moments after exiting MRT Zhongshan Station on December 19, 2025 shows chaos unfolding at a busy intersection.

The video shows people fleeing back down escalators, a large crowd gathering on sidewalks, and traffic coming to a halt as scooters and cars stop in the roadway.

Multiple ambulances with flashing lights are seen responding to the scene captured in the footage.

The video documents the immediate aftermath of a random knife attack carried out by a 27-year-old Taiwanese man surnamed Chang.

According to the information provided, the suspect first threw smoke grenades near Taipei Main Station at around 5 p.m., causing initial chaos before fleeing north.

He then indiscriminately stabbed bystanders near Zhongshan Station and inside the adjacent Eslite Spectrum Nanxi department store.

The attacks killed three people and injured at least five to nine others, many suffering severe neck wounds, while some experienced cardiac arrest caused by panic.

During a police chase inside the Eslite building, the suspect, who was carrying a long knife, body armor, and smoke and petrol devices, died after falling from the fifth or sixth floor.
