Evacuations Ordered As Guadalquivir River Hits Red Level In Córdoba

Córdoba, Spain – Authorities have ordered the evacuation of all flood-prone areas along the Guadalquivir River in Córdoba and surrounding municipalities. The river reached a red alert level due to persistent rain and controlled dam releases.

The Agency of Emergencies of Andalucía sent warnings to residents in Córdoba, urging those in high-risk homes to leave immediately. Localities affected include Almodóvar, Montoro, Pedro Abad, Villa del Río, El Carpio, Villafranca de Córdoba, Posadas, and Palma del Río.

In the capital, nine flood-prone areas face evacuations, including zones near the airport and Alcolea. The Palacio de Deportes de Vista Alegre is open as the main evacuation center, with additional shelters ready if needed.

The provincial emergency committee, with representatives from the Junta de Andalucía, Córdoba City Council, police, firefighters, and other services, coordinates the response from a command post at Plaza de la Constitución.

Governor Adolfo Molina warned that the red-level rivers create a “complicated situation” in the province. “We ask citizens to act with prudence,” he said, noting that around 400 people have already been evacuated since Wednesday.

Mayor José María Bellido emphasized coordination between administrations and security forces. “Everything is in place to manage further evacuations if necessary,” he said.

The Subdelegation of the Spanish Government confirmed that river flows continue rising and authorities are working together to ensure public safety.
