Drone Footage Reveals Tsunami Devastation In Far-East Russia

Severo-Kurils, Russia – Four tsunami waves swept through the town of Severo-Kurils in the Kuril Islands following a powerful magnitude-8.8 earthquake on July 30, according to Russian reports.

Mayor Alexander Ovsyannikov told Interfax that the third wave inflicted the most severe damage, striking port infrastructure and ships in the harbor.

Drone footage shared on Telegram by the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center of Geophysical Surveys of the Russian Academy of Sciences shows extensive flooding and destruction at the port.

The earthquake originated southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, the US Geological Survey reported.

Russia’s state news agency TASS cited the Unified Geophysical Service, stating this quake was the strongest to hit the region since 1952.
