Westminster, Colorado – A driver was arrested after police discovered three children hidden in the trunk of a vehicle during a traffic stop at City Center Drive and 93rd Avenue.

A traffic officer observed the vehicle driving recklessly and, upon making contact, noticed the smell of alcohol. The driver denied drinking but initially agreed to voluntary roadside maneuvers before quickly refusing to cooperate.

After being handcuffed, the driver admitted there were children in the trunk. Officers found three kids inside, unharmed despite freezing temperatures at the time. Several bottles of alcohol were also recovered from the vehicle.

The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, failure to provide valid insurance, and three counts of child abuse. He was transported to Adams County Jail. Child Protective Services was notified, and the children were released to family members.

Authorities stressed that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
