Ithaca, New York – On December 9, 2025, emergency responders faced a tense rescue as a deer became trapped on the icy waters of Cayuga Inlet. The B-Shift of the Ithaca Fire Department, alongside the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Park Police, sprang into action.
Using specialized ice rescue gear and an animal rescue device, the team carefully pulled the cold but unharmed deer to safety. Once on solid ground, the deer quickly regained its footing and continued on its way.
Officials urged the public to be extremely cautious near frozen waterways, emphasizing that ice can be dangerously unstable and unpredictable.
