Golfo de Urabá, Colombia – Colombian military forces successfully intercepted a cocaine-laden Go Fast boat after a coordinated 72-hour operation in the Caribbean Sea.
The vessel, equipped with four powerful outboard engines and capable of carrying nearly five tons of drugs, was found abandoned in a mangrove area of the Golfo de Urabá in Antioquia.
Naval intelligence confirmed the boat had departed from the coast of Córdoba with illicit cargo, destined for Honduras. An aircraft from the Colombian Aerospace Force tracked the vessel and guided Rapid Reaction Units from the Cartagena and Urabá Coast Guard Stations to carry out the maritime interdiction.
Upon detecting authorities, the crew attempted to evade capture by returning to Colombian shores. Troops from the 14th Marine Infantry Battalion blocked their maneuver, forcing the suspects to flee into the Golfo de Urabá and abandon the 60-foot boat, which contained 30 canisters of gasoline.
Following the interception, the 47th Infantry Battalion “Francisco de Paula Vélez” inspected, documented, and disabled the vessel in coordination with the relevant authorities. The cocaine cargo is believed to have been dumped into the sea during the pursuit, prompting ongoing search and recovery operations by aircraft from Combat Air Command No. 3 and Caribbean Naval units.
This successful operation highlights the sustained pressure by the Colombian Aerospace Force, Navy, and National Army against organized armed groups engaged in narcotics trafficking, particularly in the Caribbean region.
