Cold Weather Leaves Green Iguanas Frozen On The Ground In North Miami

North Miami, Florida – A video shared by X user M shows a green iguana lying stiff and motionless in a grassy area after an unusual bout of cold weather. The reptile appears unresponsive as low temperatures slow its body functions.

The person filming carefully lifts the iguana, which is alive but extremely sluggish from the cold. It is then placed in a sunnier spot to allow it to warm up and gradually recover.

The clip documents one of several iguanas the poster encountered while walking on February 1, 2026, all affected by the sudden temperature drop.

Green iguanas, which are cold-blooded and invasive in Florida, commonly become “cold-stunned” during rare cold snaps. When temperatures fall into the 40s Fahrenheit or lower, they are unable to regulate their body heat and can become rigid or immobile.

Similar incidents have occurred in past years during cold fronts, with iguanas falling from trees or lying stunned on sidewalks and lawns. While some people move them to warmer areas, officials often advise leaving them alone, as they usually revive once temperatures rise.
