Coast Guard Braves Heavy Seas To Rescue Sailor Off Oregon Coast

Tillamook Bay, Oregon – In heavy seas off the Oregon coast, a U.S. Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria medevaced a mariner from a sailing vessel 19 miles southwest of Tillamook Bay on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025.

The mariner was first taken off the sailboat by a Station Tillamook Bay 47-foot motor lifeboat, which brought the patient into position for the air rescue.

From there, the patient was hoisted aboard the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and flown by the Air Station Astoria crew to a higher level of medical care.
