North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany – A glowing meteor lit up the evening sky across parts of western Germany and the Netherlands around 7 p.m. local time on March 8, 2026, drawing widespread attention after a bright fireball streaked through the atmosphere.

Footage recorded by X user Hermes Trismegistos shows a twilight sky as a faint glowing object suddenly appears high in the frame. The small bright point with an orange hue quickly intensifies into a vivid fireball with a yellowish core and a reddish trail as it moves diagonally downward before shrinking into a tiny spark and disappearing.

The low-resolution recording captures the brief passage of the meteor from a stationary outdoor viewpoint, with no visible landmarks or horizon, emphasizing its rapid movement and glowing fragmentation against the calm sky.

The fireball was observed across western Germany, including North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, as well as in the Netherlands. Witnesses reported a loud boom and bright flash, prompting numerous emergency calls to police.

Fragments from the disintegrating meteor caused minor property damage in several areas. In Koblenz’s Guls district, a piece punched a hole through a roof, while other homes were affected in nearby regions including the Hunsruck and Eifel.

Authorities said no injuries were reported and confirmed there was no ongoing danger following the event.
