Brave Officer Swims Canal To Save Stranded Pup In Glendale

Glendale, Arizona, USA – A dog stuck in a canal near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road was rescued on July 16, thanks to quick action by Glendale police officers.

The drama unfolded around 8:30 p.m. when a 911 call reported a struggling dog trapped in the water.

Video shared by Glendale PD shows officers arriving at the scene as bystanders followed the dog along the canal, calling out to it.

Bodycam footage captures one officer approaching a colleague who was removing his gear.

“Cop of the year right here,” the officer with the camera remarked.

As the small white dog floated downstream, the second officer said, “I’ll swim to her, but just hold it with that pole,” before diving into the canal.

He swam across to reach the animal and safely brought her back to dry land.

A soaked but smiling photo was taken of the officer and the rescued pup.

The dog was later reunited with its grateful owner.
