Blizzard Conditions Slam Central Iowa With 60 Mph Winds And Near Whiteout Visibility

Haverhill, United States – X user Jordan Swift documented a nighttime scene along a rural road in Haverhill, Iowa, as heavy snow and powerful winds created near-whiteout conditions around 10 p.m. on March 15, 2026.

Snowflakes swept horizontally through the air, brightly illuminated by vehicle headlights that cast a hazy glow through the blizzard. Only faint distant lights or structures could be seen against the dark surroundings as visibility dropped to just a few feet.

The view appeared from inside or near a vehicle as windshield wipers cleared accumulating snow. Strong gusts drove snow across the roadway in chaotic patterns, while the low-light environment revealed no visible people, signs, or recognizable landmarks.

The severe conditions were part of a major winter storm that triggered blizzard warnings across central Iowa from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.

Officials reported winds gusting up to 60 mph and snowfall totals ranging from 4 to 8 inches. The dangerous combination of slick roads and blowing snow forced widespread road closures, including most interstates, which remained shut down into March 16.
